Heute erhellt, schützt, trägt, spiegelt und fasziniert es uns mehr denn je. Die Firma SCHNYDER BAUGLAS Design AG mit Sitz in Allschwil ist eine Glaserei, die schon seit mehr als hundert Jahren verschiedenste Produkte aus Glas anbietet. Ein Schutz aus Glas bietet zahlreiche Vorteile. Das Material ist äusserst robust, kratzfest und nicht entflammbar. Baustellen wurden um einige Wochen, sogar Monate verschoben. Es gab Wochen, wo wir keine Arbeit mehr gehabt haben – es gab aber auch Tage, wo mehrere Baustellen plötzlich gleichzeitig wieder abgeschlossen werden mussten.

Ein anderes aktuelles Thema ist die Nachhaltigkeit: Welche Chancen bietet dieser «Trend» für die Glasbranche? Wie passt Glas als Material dazu? 
Der Werkstoff Glas hat unendliche Möglichkeiten der Anwendung und passt zu jedem Werkstoff. Er ist hygienisch, sauber, ästhetisch und wunderschön. Man kennt das Material Glas «nur» als Fenster oder als ein zweckgebundenes Produkt. Dabei ist Glas auch etwas Schönes, das den Raum erleuchtet. Glas ist zu 100 Prozent recycelbar und ohne Qualitätsverlust unendlich oft wiederverwendbar. Das macht Glas zu einem nachhaltigen wie auch wertvollen Rohstoff.

Können Sie die SCHNYDER Bauglas EXPO etwas konkreter skizzieren? Was erwartet den Besucher dort?
Für mich ist die EXPO von SCHNYDER Bauglas Design AG vergleichbar mit der Montblanc Boutique in Basel, wo wir zum Beispiel aktuell Corona-Schutzscheiben präsentieren dürfen. Man befindet sich in einer anderen Welt. Nicht unbedingt die Nützlichkeit ist gefragt, sondern die Schönheit. Das wollte ich mit unserer Glas-EXPO erreichen.

Als ich im Januar 2019 das Unternehmen übernommen habe, war die EXPO ein Ort, wo man Antworten auf viele Bau-Fragen finden konnte. Mittlerweile ist sie ein Ort, wo die Schönheit von Glas im Mittelpunkt steht. Man findet hier Duschen mit einem Fotodruck wie auch Schmelzglas mit Motiv; einen verspiegelten Fernseher; einen antiken Holztisch mit einer Schutzglasplatte; einen Weihnachtsbaum komplett aus Glas und vieles mehr. Dem Material steht bei der Anwendung buchstäblich nichts im Wege, ihm sind keine Grenzen
gesetzt: Das ist das Faszinierende am Glas.

Wie beschreiben Sie die Positionierung der SCHNYDER Bauglas Design AG auf
einem Markt, auf dem einerseits zunehmend grosse globale Player in die Schweiz drängen und andererseits einige Schweizer Manufakturen den Platz der  hochpreisigen Lösungen behaupten wollen?
Die Wurzeln der Firma SCHNYDER Bauglas Design AG reichen bis ins Jahr 1911 zurück, damals unter dem Namen «Glasmanufaktur AG», später dann Blaser Bauglas AG. Im Laufe der Jahre hat sich das Unternehmen stetig konkurrenzstark positioniert. Heute gehören wir zu den führenden Glasfirmen in der Nordwestschweiz.

Was waren Ihre Erwartungen bei der Übernahme der Blaser Bauglas AG?
Es war die Liebe und die Neugier, weshalb ich mich für die Selbstständigkeit entschieden habe. Die Liebe zur Materie Glas und die Neugier, was man alles damit herstellen und produzieren kann. Bei dem Gedanken, selbstständig zu sein, war es nie mein Vorsatz, dass ich mal ein Unternehmen mit 35 Mitarbeitern übernehmen und führen werde.

Was für Ziele hatten Sie bei der Übernahme vor Augen?
Ein Ziel ist immer noch das Gleiche: Ich möchte, dass wir zu den besten Glasereien der ganzen Nordwestschweiz gehören. Und natürlich das nächste und das wichtigste Ziel – das Überleben. Ich trage Verantwortung für meine Mitarbeiter.

Können Sie uns die oberste Priorität in Ihrem Unternehmen nennen?
Ganz klar: Zufriedene Kunden und zufriedene Mitarbeiter. Um das zu erreichen, haben wir die Optimierung der Arbeitsprozesse neu eingeführt. Einmal hat ein Bauherr gesagt: Es gibt jeden Tag etwas, was man verbessern kann. Dieses Motto hat mich so beeindruckt, dass ich es bei uns in Allschwil eingeführt habe. Die Glaserei in Allschwil, welche ich übernommen habe, gibt es seit dem Jahr 1911. Wir dürfen aber nicht nur von den Erfolgen der Vergangenheit leben, sondern müssen nach vorne schauen. Und wir müssen auf alles vorbereitet sein. Die Kundenwünsche ändern sich: Sie werden präziser, jeden Tag.
