Die Fuckup night war ein voller Erfolgt

Swissbau goes Lounge-Feeling. Zum ersten Mal fand an der grössten Schweizer Baumesse die Fuckup Night statt. An solchen Events kommen ebenfalls CEOs zu Wort, jedoch erzählen sie nicht von ihren Erfolgen, sondern von ihren Fehlern. In gemütlicher Atmosphäre wurde gelacht, gelitten und sich aktiv eingebracht.

Schicke Sofas in den ersten Reihen, alte Stühle wild durcheinandergemischt, auf der Bühne liegt ein alter Teppich ausgerollt und eine Lampe steht dort, wie aus Omas Wohnzimmer. Die erste Swissbau Fuckup Night versprüht Gemütlichkeit statt kahler Eintönigkeit. An den Eingängen wird Popcorn an die Zuschauer verteilt. Lüpfige Musik der Brass Departement Band stimmt auf den Abend ein. Neben der Bühne steht eine schwarze Wand. «#TeileDeineFehler» steht dort. Das Publikum ist eingeladen, die eigenen Fehler niederzuschreiben. «Trial und Error – Mut für Neues»: Unter diesem Motto fand die diesjährige Swissbau statt. Doch Fehler machen – und auch dazu stehen – ist in der Arbeitswelt nicht gerne gesehen. Lieber spricht man über seine grössten Erfolge, seine höchsten Verdienste als darüber, welchen Auftrag man in den Sand gesetzt oder Geld verloren hat. Dem will die grösste Schweizer Baumesse mit der Fuckup Night Entgegenwirken. Ursprünglich aus Mexiko stammend hat sie die Welt im Sturm erobert. Auf einer Bühne treffen sich CEOs, Firmenchefs, Selbstständige. Man spricht über Aufträge, die nicht so geklappt haben wie gewünscht. Über Start-ups, die nicht durchgestartet sind. Und man feiert sich dafür. Denn schliesslich kann jeder aus vorausgegangenen Fehlern lernen und es beim nächsten Mal besser machen.

Die Vernunft kam nie
Der erste Redner ist Heinrich Degelo, Inhaber des Architekturbüros Degelo Architekten.
Eine Koryphäe auf seinem Gebiet. Was hat er verbockt? Die Fassade der Universitätsbibliothek in Freiburg (D) sollte saniert werden. Und siehe da, seine Firma
gewann den Wettbewerb. Es gab nur ein Problem: Die Glas- und Stahlfassade blendete
Fussgänger, Autofahrer und Fahrradfahrer, wenn die Sonne flach stand. Doch Degelo hatte eine Idee: die spiegelnde Fassade mit einem Banner, wie sie in der Bibliothek selbst bereits hängen, abdecken. Auf dieser sollten verschiedene Sprüche zu sehen sein.

Klingt nach einer guten Idee. Dennoch hatte Degelo eine Sache nicht bedacht: In seiner
Präsentation vor dem Unibauamt zierte das Banner folgender Spruch: «Merkwürdig, dass man hier alles lesen und sagen kann, was man will.» Ein Zitat des russischen Schriftstellers Anton P. Tschechow. Dieses missfiel dem Direktor der Universität. Und zwar nicht nur ein wenig. Jedes gute Zureden half nichts. Der «Durchlaucht» wollte keine Zitate mehr auf diesem Banner sehen. Es folgte ein Hin und Her zwischen Degelo und dem Universitätsvorstand. Selbstverständlich wollte der Architekt nicht einfach nur ein blankes Banner aufhängen. «Nur über meine Leiche», hatte er gesagt.

«Wir lösen das schon vernünftig zusammen », hatte der Unibauamtsdirektor dem mittlerweile leicht angesäuerten Architekten versprochen. «Doch», wie Degelo fortfährt,
«die Vernunft kam nie.» Der Entwurf wurde genau so übernommen. Ein blosses schwarzes Banner, sonst nichts. Keine Sprüche, keine Bilder. Nichts. Natürlich liess auch der Shitstorm nicht auf sich warten. Regionale Medien machten sich über die Konstruktion lustig, selbst Heinrich Degelo hat es als Karikatur in die Badische Zeitung geschafft. «Wir erhielten
viele Presseanfragen, mussten die jedoch nach Vereinbarung an den Direktor des Unibauamtes weiterleiten», erzählt Degelo weiter. Doch dieser sei nie erreichbar gewesen.
All das zog sich über neun Jahre hinweg und wird hoffentlich demnächst ein Ende finden.

Aus Fehlern lernen
Nach den jeweiligen Referaten darf sich das Publikum aktiv mit einbringen. Über
Mentimeter können die Zuschauer Fragen stellen, die dann live beantwortet werden.
Manche stellen ernste, manche eher weniger ernst gemeinte Fragen: «Hätte das
Desaster verhindert werden können?», «Warum tragen Sie orange Schuhe?», aber
auch wohlwollende Worte werden versendet: «Stark und ehrlich – bitte dranbleiben.» Letztere gehen an Antje Kunze, Director Sales & Marketing von virtualcitySYSTEMS
GmbH in Berlin. Sie folgt auf Philipp Storrer von Belimo, der, wenn man dem Publikum
glauben kann, seinen Fuckup eher als Werbegespräch gehalten hat. Dennoch muss
man ihm zugutehalten, dass er gute Ratschläge geben kann: «Wenn Sie Ideen haben,
bringen Sie sie auf Papier, egal wie ambitiös.» Er selbst hat mit seiner Firma eine App namens BEhive entwickelt, mit welcher die Bewohner eines Gebäudes das Raumklima
selbst steuern könnten. Wie gesagt: könnten. Denn über das Pilotprojekt in Hamburg
und Horgen kam die App nie hinaus.

Antje Kunze hat im Juli 2015 den ETH-Spinoff CloudCities AG gegründet. «Unsere Mission war, Städte zu unterstützen, ihre Planung zu erleichtern.» Auf einer Plattform mit Stadtplanungstool konnten Häuser geplant werden, eine Funktion war, den Lichteinfall der Sonne zu simulieren. So konnte geschaut werden, dass geplante Hochhäuser sich nicht gegenseitig die «Sonne aus den Segeln nahmen». Der Start war nant. Zu den Kunden gehörten die Stadt Zürich, später auch die Harvard-Universität. Doch der grosse Durchbruch blieb aus. Im Mai 2017 ging die Firma Konkurs und wurde aufgelöst. «Die letzten Monate konnten wir unseren Angestellten nicht einmal mehr den Lohn zahlen», erzählt Kunze mit Wehmut in der Stimme. Ihre Authentizität bringt ihr beim Publikum viele Sympathiepunkte und grossen Applaus nach ihrem Panel. Abgeschlossen wird die Fuckup Night mit einer Podiumsdiskussion der drei Referenten sowie zwei Gästen: Beat Wullschleger, Mitinhaber und Co-Geschäftsführer Wilhelm Schmidlin AG, und Prof. Dr. Roland Siegwart, Leiter Institut für Robotik und Intelligente Systeme, ETH Zürich. Kann man aus Fehlern lernen? Ja, da sind sich alle einig. Beat Wullschleger: «Wir sehen den Fehler als Schatz auf einer Schatzkarte, den man entdecken muss.» Und aus diesem Schatz können dann Rückschlüsse gezogen werden. Als die Moderatorin Tanya König zum
Schluss die Frage stellt, ob die Fuckup Night ein fester Bestandteil der Swissbau werden soll, ist der Tenor eindeutig: ja. Man darf also auf nächstes Jahr gespannt sein, wer dann davon erzählt, welche Firma er in den Sand gesetzt hat.
