Die Villa Allungata auf Elba ist eine von zwei piccole case al mare, die der italienische Architekt und Gestalter Giò Ponti Anfang der 1960er-Jahre realisiert hat. FELIX PARTNER Architektur und Design aus Zürich haben das denkmalgeschützte Juwel im Parco Nationale originalgetreu renoviert.
Eingeschossige, weiss getünchte Bungalowhäuser inmitten der wilden Naturlandschaft gibt es auf Elba viele. Die Villa Allungata im Parco Nationale an der Ostküste der toskanischen Ferieninsel ist allerdings ein architekturhistorisches Juwel. Entworfen hat das Ferienhaus der bekannte italienische Architekt und Designer Giò Ponti Anfang der 1960er-Jahre im Auftrag einer englischen Immobilienfirma. Zehn Häuser, ein Hotel und ein Restaurant umfasste das damalige Bauprogramm. Gebaut wurden letztlich aber nur zwei Häuser, die Villa Ottogonale und die Villa Allungata.
Blick übers Meer
Bevor Giò Ponti die Villa entwarf, beschäftigte er sich intensiv mit der Lage und dem Lichteinfall auf dem Grundstück sowie der traditionellen lokalen Bauweise. So interpretierte Ponti ein bei vielen alten Häusern immer wieder vorkommendes Element: das Hochziehen der Mauer mit ihrer speziellen Form über den Dachrand, interpretiert auf eine moderne Weise. Die Räume – das Wohnzimmer, die Loggia und die vier Schlafzimmer – richtete der Architekt vollumfänglich auf das Landschaftserlebnis mit dem unverbauten Meerblick aus. Betritt man die Schlafzimmer vom rückseitigen Erschliessungsbereich, kann man direkt durch die Terrassentüren aufs Meer blicken. Dank clever platzierter Fenster auf der Nordseite des Gebäudes meint man bereits beim Anblick der Bilder, die kühlende Brise zu spüren, die während der heissen Sommernächte durch die Räume zieht.
Verwahrloster Zustand
Die Villa Allungata gehörte während 25 Jahren einem Schweizer Filmemacher, bevor sie von FELIX PARTNER Architektur und Design in enger Zusammenarbeit mit der Denkmalpflege in Pisa restauriert wurde. Der Zustand vor dem Umbau war «absolut katastrophal», wie sich Peter Felix von FELIX PARTNER Architektur und Design erinnert: Das Dach und die Terrasse waren undicht, die Haustechnik und Ölheizung funktionierten nicht mehr und das Sockelgeschoss mit Garage war provisorisch abgestützt worden. Nicht mehr zu gebrauchen waren zudem die Küche und alle Bäder. «Das Potenzial von historischen Immobilien zu erkennen, auch wenn ihr Zustand noch so schlecht ist, gehört indes zu unseren Kernkompetenzen. Mit unserem professionellen Ansatz und unserer jahrzehntelangen Erfahrung können wir Kunden in dieser Hinsicht sehr gut beraten und sie von einer wertvollen Investition überzeugen», so Peter Felix. So war es eine Knochenarbeit, die zu erhaltenden Elemente herauszuschälen und diese auch in der Restaurierungsphase zu schützen. Bei der Instandsetzung folgten die Architekten dem Grundsatz, das Gebäude wo immer möglich originalgetreu wiederherzustellen. Zum Glück stellte sich heraus, dass die eigentliche Bausubstanz weitgehend erhalten werden konnte. Das Pultdach wurde indes gänzlich erneuert, das Fundament mit der Garage neu erstellt und der Hang mit einer Mauer gestützt. Dies eröffnete zugleich die Möglichkeit, einen Pool in den Garten zu integrieren, in welchem neu auf rund 5000 Quadratmetern Zitronen-, Oliven- und Feigenbäume wachsen.
Luftige Raumhöhen
Nicht nur die Anzahl der Schlafzimmer für insgesamt sieben Personen und das Wohn- und Esszimmer haben entgegen der schlichten Erscheinung der Architektur etwas sehr Grosszügiges. Auch besitzt jedes Schlafzimmer ein eigenes Bad mit Oberlichtern und eine luftige Raumhöhe von drei Metern. Die handglasierten Keramikfliesen mit ihrer auffälligen Geometrie schaffen eine starke Identität. Wie durchdacht Ponti die Jahreszeiten berücksichtigt hat, zeigt sich unter anderem in der Loggia im Südwesten: Sie ist gut beschattet und besitzt zugleich ein Cheminée für kühlere Abende.
Ambiente der 1960er-Jahre
Die Bäder haben FELIX PARTNER Architektur und Design erneuert, aber ebenfalls zurückhaltend materialisiert – unter Beibehaltung der alten Holztüren und mit dem Einsatz von Türdrückern von Giò Ponti sowie Armaturen, die in die Zeit der 1960er-Jahre passen. Dies gilt auch für die Möblierung. Im Haus findet sich Vintage Design von Giò Ponti, wie etwa seine wabenförmigen Couchtische. Die Designs von Ponti wurden durch eine private Sammlung von typischen Designklassikern jener Jahre ergänzt. «Die aufwendige und zugleich rücksichtsvolle Restauration und Renovation der Villa Allungata hat uns erneut bewusst gemacht, wie virtuos Giò Ponti die Räume und die Innenarchitektur auf die Umgebung ausgerichtet und dabei die traditionelle Architektur der Insel berücksichtigt hat», sagt Peter Felix. «Das Ferienhaus am Meer atmet nun wieder den Geist jener Jahre, in denen es erbaut wurde.»
