Künstliche Intelligenz, kurz KI, ist in aller Munde. Kaum ein Magazin, Symposium oder Expertenkreis kommt mehr um dieses Thema herum. Kürzlich durfte ich einem Wirtschaftsforum beiwohnen, an welchem – wie könnte es anders sein – auch über KI und deren Bedeutung für Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft gesprochen wurde. Beim anschliessenden Netzwerken hat mir eine renommierte Referentin dann ganz beiläufig eröffnet: «Ich fürchte mich mehr vor menschlicher Dummheit als vor künstlicher Intelligenz.»
Dieser Satz hat noch lange bei mir nachgehallt. «Wow», dachte ich, «da diskutieren wir alle heftig über die potenziellen Gefahren von künstlicher Intelligenz und blenden dabei ganz aus, welche offensichtlichen Gefahren seit jeher von menschlicher Dummheit ausgehen.» KI ist eben etwas Neues, an die menschliche Dummheit haben wir uns schon lange gewöhnt.
Albert Einstein soll einmal gesagt haben: «Zwei Dinge sind unendlich: das Universum und die menschliche Dummheit.» Dann fügte er noch süffisant hinzu, dass er sich beim Universum aber noch nicht ganz sicher sei. Nur gab es damals noch keine künstliche Intelligenz. Ist diese auch unendlich? Einige Experten gehen davon aus und prophezeien bereits, dass KI dereinst das menschliche Hirn überholen, sich verselbstständigen und die menschliche Gesellschaft ins Chaos stürzen, ja sogar die Weltherrschaft übernehmen könnte. Aber so richtig sicher ist sich da niemand. Was bleibt also als stabilisierender Faktor, auf den man sich immer verlassen kann? Ja genau: die menschliche Dummheit.
Halten wir an dieser Stelle einmal inne und fragen uns: Was ist eigentlich ein dummer Mensch? Die Historikerin und Wirtschaftspsychologin Svenja Hofert bringt es in ihrem Beitrag «Die fünf Gesetze für menschliche Dummheit» sehr schön auf den Punkt: Eine dumme Person ist eine Person, die Verluste in einer anderen Person oder in Gruppen verursacht, während sie selbst keine Gewinne und Vorteile erzielt, sondern gleichermassen
Verluste. Es ist nicht von der Hand zu weisen: Diese Beschreibung trifft auf zu viele unserer Artgenossen zu, namentlich auf solche, die extrem viel Macht und Einfluss in sich vereinen. Die Seiten dieses Heftes würden bei Weitem nicht ausreichen, die eindrückliche Anzahl von einschlägigen Beweisen dafür zu fassen.
Und jetzt kommt die zentrale Frage: Wie tickt die künstliche Intelligenz? Ist sie auch bereit, ohne Rücksicht auf Verluste zu agieren und sich selbst respektive dem digitalen Netzwerk, das sie repräsentiert und dem sie innewohnt, zu schaden? Und als Konsequenz natürlich uns allen? Die Antwort auf diese brennenden Fragen versucht ein Experiment mit dem Namen ChaosGPT zu geben. Es handelt sich um eine Auto-GPT-Variante mit der Mission, die Menschheit zu vernichten. Die KI läuft im «Continuous Mode» von Auto-GPT, kann sich also ständig selbst fortschreiben. Hurra, wir leben noch! Es scheint bis jetzt (noch) nicht funktioniert zu haben. Die bisherigen Ergebnisse zeigen unter anderem, dass auch eine sogenannte böse KI die Unterstützung durch Interaktion mit bösen Menschen braucht, um zu reüssieren. Und die Natur des Algorithmus, welcher per se eine Verbesserung anstrebt, hilft dabei auch nicht wirklich.
Damit kommen wir zurück zur eingangs gestellten Frage: Was ist schlimmer – künstliche Intelligenz oder menschliche Dummheit? Meine ganz persönliche Antwort: Wirklich gefährlich ist nach heutigem Wissensstand die Kombination aus beidem. Wir haben gelernt, mit menschlicher Dummheit umzugehen, sie bis zu einem gewissen Grad zu verbieten, zu reglementieren und zu ahnden. Aber abschaffen konnten wir sie bis heute nicht. Sie schwingt immerzu wie ein Damoklesschwert über unseren Köpfen. Darin liegt der ewige Kampf zwischen Gut und Böse begründet. KI ist da ein weiteres Element, welches sich hinzugesellt. Die gute Nachricht ist, dass hinter Ursprungsalgorithmen, welche sich automatisiert weiterschreiben, Menschen mit einer konkreten Absicht stehen. Und so setzt sich aller Wahrscheinlichkeit nach der Kampf zwischen Gut und Böse fort, der sich vom Schlachtfeld über Flugzeuge nun ins Internet verlagert hat.
Wer wird gewinnen? Hier kommt eine weitere Gesetzmässigkeit ins Spiel: Nichtdumme Menschen unterschätzen regelmässig die zerstörerische Macht dummer Menschen. Intelligente Menschen vergessen verlässlich, dass es sich immer und in jedem Fall als teurer Fehler herausstellt, mit dummen Personen zu kooperieren. Diesen Faktor gilt es im Griff zu haben. Halten wir also weiterhin ein wachsames Auge auf die menschliche Dummheit, dann kommt’s auch gut mit der künstlichen Intelligenz.
